I just wanted to know what it's good for if I "follow" some series. Sure, it appears in my profile, but is there any other use? For example getting eMails if new episodes have been uploaded?
the only real advantage is it saves all the searching through to find the series you're downloading. all the updates of new episodes appear on the anime homepage anyways.

The only "advantage" is ease of access - you can click "My Account" and then under "My Anime" you'll have direct links to all anime series you're following so you don't have to search for them every time. That's all it does.
