It counts. Not scary to everyone but to some b/c it's something you can't see and understand. Since it's not explained well and not seen but is 'unknown' and not an everyday thing...they're scary. Something like that at least.... Also, people aren't sure what to expect maybe? Like someone above said...they can be 'evil' or can hurt you. So people will fear something that can hurt you...but you can't do harm to. ^_^"

i think it is because people who believe in heaven or hell or other places of the kind dont want to deal with the idea that there are those who have died and have not gotten to one of these places and they do not want the same fate for them selves

they're just some evil spirits wandering, and scaring off people.
i , on the other hand, see them, it gives me creeps but i got used to it.
the part i hate is when they do things physically [?] like trying to pick my hair, sometimes mess with my things. or even talk blah blah, i heard a ghost talking or whatever, seems angry. I'm not sure that time (if it was real)
~when i was a child my mother said i talked (what the!?) to ghosts, yeah right, children are unaware if they are talking to humans or not.

because you cant predict them.. you dont know how and when they'll appear..
maybe that's why ghosts are scary

My theory on this... is that people usually fear the unknown (as demonstrated with many cases of racism in ages past). However, this fear of the unknown is compounded with the traits we give ghosts. Truly, most claim that ghosts are a type of 'ethereal' being which we can seldom see (if ever clearly). This 'ethereal' state leads most to believe that we cannot affect them in the very least, while they can affect 'our world' with ease. Our inability to spot them gives many people the chills; the most common way of expressing this is "you don't know what's eating you". It's duly noted that they are also 'dead' in a sense which would render them unaffected by any means we have, meaning we have no defense or offense capabilities against them, making us feel vulnerable.

Those are just some of the reasons why people usually fear ghosts.

Note: It's also rumored that contact with a ghost can kill you or something similar to that regard.

In all honesty, though, the existence of 'ghosts' is highly controversial.

However, if you want a 'slightly' logical explanations for ghosts... you can say that they're merely the 'leftover' EM waves from a deceased person's brain. This would explain most of the 'signs' of ghosts.

well why ghost scary???...not really...
they anyone here saw ghost even just once??if you do then you can decide ghost scary or not..
and if don't...they don't scary at all...(i saw 3 times in my life...)

I don't think ghosts are scary. Its just the way that they would pop out that scares people.

Honestly, I'd really want a ghost as a friend. The first thing I'd probably ask would be "howz it feel to die?"
