S.W.A.T. (The TV Show)
So, I just checked out the old SWAT TV series. Bought the first season off of iTunes.
Pretty cool.
Let's get the plot summary out of the way, first.
From wikipedia: "S.W.A.T. is a 1970s American television series about the adventures of the WCPD's Olympic Division Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team operating in an unidentified California city."
It's actually supposed to be LA, I've heard, but it never identifies the city.
It stars Steve Forrest as Lt. Dan "Hondo" Harrelson, Rod Perry as Sgt. David "Deacon" Kay (second in command), Robert Urich as Officer Jim Street, Mark Shera as Officer Dominic Luca, and James Coleman as Officer T.J. McCabe (scout/sniper).
On to the review part.
Now, I picked this show up a while after I had watched the 2003 movie, as in a few days ago. I liked the movie. I was interested in the show since watching the movie, but never got a chance to watch it. So when I did, I took that chance and downloaded it. I'm on the final episode of the first season. It's pretty good. I'm surprised at how attached I'm getting to these characters. The effects, well, it's the 70's. The acting is pretty good, surprisingly good for the era. I mean, it's got the signature styles, but they feel real, rather than just actors playing a character. The writing a tiny bit formulaic, but not enough to detract from the show, although you know the end of every episode before you even watch it, the only question is "Do they catch the guy or do they kill him?". Although, there is one episode, called "The Bravo Enigma" that is absolutely hilarious, in the fact that, "Christ, a plague, really?".
So, overall, it's a $22 purchase off iTunes that's worth it if you have the space and money. It shows its age, but it's pretty charming and lovable. I'd suggest it.
