Pendragon's "HG Wells' THe War of the Worlds" (2005)
No, NOT the Tom Cruise version.
Pendragon's 2005 HG Wells' War of the Worlds is an independent flick made in 2005, alongside the Tom Cruise version. Also along with ANOTHER independent film made by Asylum, who makes ALL of the "Mockbusters". You know those movies that are REALLY similar to big box-office hits, but just a little different and made independently, usually starring a washed-up has-been like C. Thomas Howell, like "Transmorphers" or "Alien vs Hunter"? Yeah, that's a mockbuster. Made by Asylum. However, the film I am talking about is a different film. It's made by Pendragon, and I'm not sure what else they've done other than a movie called "Chrome", which I haven't seen. Though, this film does differ from every other WOTW film, all 3 (4 if you count the Asylum sequel) others. It actually tells the original story that HG Wells wrote. It's a period piece set in 1896. While I COULD praise them for that, I'll say that it's actually a bad thing, as they are complete SLAVES to the book. The book should not be made into a film unabridged, but dammit, they did it. It's incredibly long, 3 hours on the dot, compared to the director's cut of Watchmen, a GOOD long movie, which is 2 hours and 40 minutes.
DAAAAAYYYYUUUMMMMM. 3 hours. Thank whatever powers that be that this wasn't released in theaters, or else many people would be dead from bladder explosion. That rivals Peter Jackson, I think.
The director's cut is actually SHORTER, too. Which is funny. About 45 minutes shorter. With retooled special effects. Not that they're worth anything.
I'm going to re-vamp this review in a little while, with pictures and everything. Just wait.
In the meantime, anyone seen it? If not, don't worry. It's terrible, and hard to find. Though I did get the original 3-hour cut for $2 on Amazon, which was less than THE SHIPPING. It was awesome.

I've never even heard of it until now. But since you said it was that long and was that bad... I'll save myself the trouble of finding it and watching it.

You guys are wise. I, however, am not. I bought both the 3-hour cut AND the shorter director's cut.
I even made a commentary with my friend of it, I gotta do it again, though, because my mic didn't pick him up. But I might upload it somewhere. It's a full commentary, though. 2 hours 45 minutes. Over 100 megs.

I'm workin' on it. Just gotta get enough images and put a review together. Gotta think about it, how to write it. It's pretty tough.

Oh! I love mockbusters!!! Gets me nostalgic bout Epic movie, Superhero movies and others like it.
Well, since protoAuthor's warned me about it, I don't plan on seeing the movie but I'm waiting for his review.

Worse than the Tom Cruise version? I find that hard to believe. I mean the sfx were cool, but it was Cruise playing the same old character as in Rain Man, Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, ad nauseum.

Yeah, but this movie doesn't even have the special effects.
