^^^ good for u, my parents make fun of me for watching anime. they say that they are amazed how a nearly 29 year old guy can be interested in kiddy cartoons.... for some reason it just doesn't get through their thick skulls that the plot in anime can be just as serious, if not more serious, then live action movies. they think that if it was drawn, then it's for kids.... god damn that makes me pissed....
EDIT: i meant 19 year old, not 29, which makes it that much worse XD

You can't fight a closed mind, just pick out something adult, by adult I mean serious, like Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Monster or Michiko to Hatchin to start them on. My parents aren't a problem as I'm 60 and they're pushing daisies, God rest their souls.

Anime has any genre that live action does. Pick out a good one, one done in a realistic style, and perhaps you can break some ground. If not, don't let it get to you, your value is not derived from their opinions.

I'm 26 and I have been watching Anime since around the age of 10, cartoons since the age of 3.

Anyway here is an example to convert the non-anime watcher to watch Anime.

Look for movies/TV shows that they like, then look for any Anime that you watch that is similar in genre.

It may, or may not work but trying is better than not doing anything at all

My parents don't really care. The only annoying thing is when my mom starts talking about how 'cranky' the japanese voices sound.

Dad on animes : *has no idea/interest in what his son does; so no comments*

Mom on animes : its a nice way Nem has found out to learn Japanese! Watching animes in Japanese! I did find the Jigoku Shouju : Girl from Hell interesting!

Since I live with my grandparents, their opinion matters just as much.

Grandfather on animes : Those cartoons? I'm astonished at how my 18 year ol grandson can watching something THAT lame... OMG its time for my daily soap shows!! I gotta run, see ya! (<<<height of hypocrisy)

Grandmother on animes : che! (<<< just that sound and an expression of hopelessness)

Simplified - old people around me think, anime = cartoon = for kids; Nem shouldn't be watching this.

Just show them a gore anime and they will think otherwise
